Ballet de Catalunya presents Double Bill: Tradition and New Creation on the Same Stage

Ballet de Catalunya proudly presents Double Bill, a program that brings together two essential pillars of the company’s artistic identity: a deep commitment to the classical repertoire and a strong focus on the creation of new works. The performances will take place at the Teatre Principal de Terrassa on March 28, 2026 (8:00 PM) and March 29, 2026 (6:00 PM), with a total running time of approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes, including intermission.

More than a mixed program, Double Bill reflects the company’s vision: to honor the great classical tradition while actively contributing to the evolution of ballet through original contemporary creations.

Paquita Divertissement: A Celebration of Classical Excellence

The evening opens with Paquita Divertissement, based on the original work by Marius Petipa, set to music by Ludwig Minkus, and staged for Ballet de Catalunya by Xiomara Reyes and Rinat Imaev.

This work showcases some of the most celebrated passages of the classical canon: technically demanding solo variations, refined ensemble work, and the brilliant Grand Pas Classique, a symbol of virtuosity and stylistic purity.

Through its clarity of line, musical precision, and structured elegance, Paquita Divertissement embodies the discipline and beauty that define academic ballet. It offers audiences the opportunity to experience the grandeur of the 19th-century classical tradition performed with the energy and rigor of today’s dancers.

Still Watching

The second half of the program presents the premiere of Still Watching, an original creation by Ballet de Catalunya’s Artistic Director, Leo Sorribes.

In contrast to the formal structure of the classical divertissement, Still Watching explores the physical and psychological impact of constant observation in the digital age. Without relying on text or literal devices, the choreography examines themes of exposure, validation, pressure, and identity through the expressive power of the body.

Movement language shifts between tension and vulnerability, collective force and individual isolation, creating a dynamic stage environment where dancers navigate the experience of being seen — and judged — continuously. The piece invites the audience to reflect on contemporary social realities while engaging emotionally through pure physical expression.

A Company Committed to Creation

Ballet de Catalunya places a strong emphasis on developing new choreographic works as a central part of its artistic mission. The company believes that ballet must remain a living art form — one that evolves, questions, and responds to the present moment.

At the same time, this commitment to innovation does not come at the expense of classical heritage. On the contrary, Ballet de Catalunya sees the classical repertoire as a foundational language that informs and strengthens its contemporary voice. Double Bill exemplifies this philosophy: preserving tradition while actively shaping the future of ballet.

An Invitation to the Audience

With Double Bill, Ballet de Catalunya invites audiences to experience two complementary dimensions of dance in one evening: the timeless refinement of classical ballet and the immediacy of contemporary creation.

It is a program designed for seasoned ballet lovers and new audiences alike — a performance that celebrates technical excellence, artistic depth, and the company’s ongoing commitment to both heritage and innovation.

Ballet de Catalunya looks forward to welcoming you to this special evening at the Teatre Principal de Terrassa.
