Training for the stage.
Three levels, from 10 to 18. Between five and a half and fourteen and a half hours a week, inside a school that belongs to a professional company. No audition to enter.
The pathway
Professional Training prepares a dancer for a professional career: it refines the classical foundation, builds artistry and adds the disciplines a company actually asks for. The aim is stated plainly — to be ready to join the corps de ballet of Ballet de Catalunya, or of another company.
Hours. Elementary is one or two hours a week; here it is between five and a half and fourteen and a half, across two afternoons or across the whole week. Ballet stops being an activity in the diary and becomes the thing the week is built around.
Classical class every session, and around it pointe, contemporary, repertoire and body conditioning. From the intermediate level there is a supplementary discipline too — jazz, character or flamenco — because a company asks a dancer for more than one language.
To professional auditions, and to Trainee from sixteen: training alongside the company itself, under the artistic direction. Along the way, the stage — with the school, and sometimes with the company.
Times and fees
Each level has its own teacher, its own weekly load and its own fee. A dancer moves up when the level below has been done, not when a birthday says so.

Pointe work
It is a rule of the school and it is not negotiated, because it is not a judgement made dancer by dancer. Before twelve the bones of the foot and the ankle are still forming, and going up on pointe early causes damage that does not undo.
It is not brought forward for anyone, however talented, however eager, and however much a family asks. A dancer who waits loses nothing; one who starts at ten can lose the feet they will need at twenty.
The disciplines
A classical class is the spine of every session. These are the disciplines built around it, and how many of them a dancer gets depends on the level.
Before enrolling
There is no audition to get in, and no need to decide from a timetable. Your dancer takes one class with the level they would join, and the teacher tells you honestly which one fits.
For a trial class, contact us. Tell us the age, how many years they have trained and which level you are asking about — Pre-Professional 1, 2 Intermediate or 2 Advanced. We will place them in a class that same week. The trial class costs 12.75 €, paid by card when you book it. Online booking is on its way; for now the school office arranges every trial by phone, WhatsApp or email.
Assessment
The pre-professional programmes are assessed formally in December and in June. Five things are looked at, and none of them is talent.
What the body can do, and how correctly it does it.
Whether the movement belongs to the music or merely happens over it.
How corrections are taken, and how the studio is treated.
At this level, weeks missed are visible in the body.
Measured against the dancer in December, never against the dancer at the next barre.
The season
Classes run from September to June. On top of them come the intensives and the stage dates.
Families meet the teachers, the year is laid out and questions are answered before the first class.

Practical
The rules are the same for every group in the school. At this level they matter more, because there are more hours and more people depending on each other.
The supplier of the school uniform is being confirmed for this season. We will tell you which one it is, and where to buy it, before classes begin.
More hours means more in the bag.

Attendance is one of the five things assessed, and it is the one entirely in the dancer's hands.
Constant communication with families is one of the school's stated values, and this is what it looks like in practice.
Who teaches
Takes the entry level of the pathway, where the weekly load first doubles.
Also teaches Pre Ballet and Elementary, so she knows what a dancer arrives with.
The senior level, five days a week, aimed at the professional audition.
Questions
No. There is no entry audition for any of the three levels. What there is, is a trial class: the teacher sees the dancer work and tells you which level fits. Auditions in this school are for the company and for the Trainee programme, not for getting into the pathway.
At twelve, and not before. It is a rule of the school, not a decision taken dancer by dancer, and it is not brought forward for anyone. Before that age the bones of the foot and the ankle are still forming.
The two lower levels run on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, so yes, straightforwardly. The advanced level runs Monday to Friday and takes fourteen and a half hours a week: that one is a commitment for the whole family, and it is worth talking through with us before enrolling.
Talk to us first. This pathway assumes the ground that Elementary lays, and starting cold at Pre-Professional 1 is hard on a dancer. Sometimes the answer is a year in another group before coming in. Come to a trial class and we will tell you straight.
No, and we would rather say so plainly. Escola Ballet de Catalunya is registered with the Generalitat as a centre for non-regulated dance education, centre code 08079584. What this pathway gives is training, repertoire, stage experience and preparation for professional auditions — which is what a company looks at.
They can, when they are cast. Students on this pathway take part in performances of Ballet de Catalunya, The Nutcracker among them, as well as in the school's own showcases.
No. The registration fee — 65 € for Pre-Professional 1, 90 € for the two upper levels — is paid once per season and is not refundable.
